Killing Time: Please Don't Let This Happen

So Brad Childress is well on his way to Mississippi to meet with Favre. Blerckkkk

I still have hope though (which, if you combined with 3 parts cynicism and 2 parts bitterness gives you exactly what you need to root for the Vikings). They're going to make demands of the Ol' Gunslinger. Unreasonable ones at that. And by unreasonable, I mean, demands that any other human being would find perfectly reasonable, like the requirement that he get in shape, come to voluntary team activities to learn the offense and generally act like a member of the team. So maybe Favre will turn down Childress. I mean, if anyone can out stubborn Favre, it's got to be Childress, right? Right?? Please???

More on Favre:
  • Big Daddy Drew perfectly sums up every Vikings fan's feelings on what's about to happen.
  • Cold, Hard Football Facts points out the statistical reasons for Favre to play one more year (That's right folks--he could break Jim Marshall's consecutive start streak this year, while wearing a Vikings' jersey. If this happens, I will no longer care if the Vikings move to L.A.)
  • Michael Lombardi doesn't understand why the Vikings are willing to put up with Favre's attitude when they weren't willing to put up with Jay Cutler's (excuse me while I slam my head into a door to dull the pain).

Fortunately, most Minnesotans, including myself, want Favre. T-Jack will never win a super bowl and Rosenfels is a career backup.

Big Daddy Drew doesn't sum up anybody's feelings other than other poddy mouths.

Favre's not going to lead the Vikings to the Super Bowl anymore than Rosenfels or T-Jack will.

At least Favre has already won a super bowl and we both agree T-Jack won't, so we might as well roll the dice on Favre.

Joe Montana's won four Super Bowls. We should sign him instead.

If you say so.

Interesting, Berrian is excited about Favre. The Vikings appear to have lost Housh because T-Jack was the QB. Maybe T-Bird is just bitter he tried to squash me everytime I said the Vikes will get Favre,

Mike and Mike agreed with Brian Billick when he said getting Favre vaults the Vikes to the top of the super bowl list, if Favre throws only 25 times per game and relies on Peterson.

Anon--You're right. I'm bitter. It's my default setting as a Vikings' fan. No bitterness toward you though--I just didn't want to think about this awful possibility if I didn't have to.

Anon2--If Childress runs an offense that only requires Favre to throw 25 times a game, I will eat my hat. Favre's thrown 31+ passes a game every year of his career, except 2003. Last year, he threw 32 times a game. He's not coming back to hand the ball off

Can we get a video of you eating your hat?

I'm not worried. The Vikings averaged 28.5 passes a game last year with Gus and Tarvaris. They're not going to throw fewer passes with Favre under center.

I think Brian Billick's 25 is possible because they will be more explosive with the better deep passing game, Harvin in the slot and AP should be freed up for longer runs. They should be running Chester more with bigger leads. But then again unlike you I think Favre is a much better QB than Gus or T-Jack.

Besides I really don't care if the Vikings throw 32.6 passes with Favre compared to 28.5 passes with Gus and T-Jack. Stats can be misleading since Gus and T-jack couldn't keep drives alive. Regardless, I don't think Favre will run the Vikings anymore than he ran the Packers or Jets. He will play the offense he is given. The Jets used him too much just like the Vikings overused AP. Hopefully, they will find a happy medium.

Another thought is you can't compare any team with the Vikings because Peterson draws more defenders into the box than other teams. I heard that is why Favre wants to come to the Vikings. He thinks the Vikings QBs have failed to take advantage. Moreover, Favre has a much better history against the blitz than T-Jack, and also play action.
