The Vikings signed Bethel Johnson yesterday to return kicks and add depth to the recieving core. This is the kind of midseason pickup I like to see--it adds depth and addresses a weak spot. It also gets Troy Williamson off the kick return team, which is a great move--he wasn't all that great at it, there's a high risk of injury and it will allow him to focus solely on wide reciever.
So welcome Bethel! Hopefully Purple and Gold fits you better than Black and Gold (and whatever the Pats colors are).
And of course, each new beginning is some other beginning's end, and so we must bid farewell to Drew Henson. As always, parting is such sweet sorrow.

I'm relieved too that Williamson is off the return team. He should be too valuable (if only there was a decent QB) at WR to risk running back kicks. If Bethel can keep away from DUIs he ought to be a good addition. Drew Henson - we hardly knew ye. Which is probably a good thing.
Exactly. Tarvaris to Williamson has no shot of joining the elite QB-WR combos if Williamson blows out his knee returning a kick off.
Also, I think that this signing is another example of Zygi being willing to spend the Vikings' revenue on winning. They didn't have to bring in Bethel--they could have just stood pat. I know it's not a huge deal, but I don't think it's something Red would have been willing to do.
Should be a very nice special teams upgrade!
